Mapplethorpe has become a reference when it comes to photography in the world of arts. Before his premature death, he developed his work with a first-class aesthetic care. His black and white photos are of a striking beauty. More than 200 of his works are exhibited at the Grand Palais from March 26 to July 13. Definitely shivering!
The former companion of rocker Patti Smith has made a major issue of his search for beauty. His photos show the erotic power of bodies but also the unspoilt or domesticated beauty of nature. Enhanced with shade or light, his photos are arousing by their simplicity on the surface.
Erotic, classical and beautiful. But still, when looked at closely, the photos show one of the strongest designed stylisations the history of photography has ever known. Through more than 200 images, you’ll quickly notice it by admiring portraits, nudes, and still lives that unwind more than 20 years of artistic work. Erotic, classical and beautiful; the work of Mapplethorpe is interrogating.

It is the natural son of the Art Nouveau. And justice is done: the Art Deco will also be celebrated in Paris this winter! During your stay at the Abaca Messidor, rediscover its major role in Paris and its crazy attraction… To be discovered at the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine de Chaillot until March 3!
They were called Sauvage, Mallet-Stevens, Patout. They were architects. They were called Véra, Süe, Mare and Ruhlmann. They were decorators. Without forgetting about the designer Poiret or even the sculptor Pompon. They were all originators of the Art Deco in Paris. They are all celebrated in Paris this winter.
Artistic energy. With geometrical forms and a surprisingly attractive dynamism, they brought a crazy energy to all the arts starting from 1919 to 1940. This ideal retrospective will allow you to discover the origin of the style - the International Exhibition of 1925 - as well as its international spread!

Born in Transylvania, he could have been a vampire and live at night. But still, he chose to live for the lights of Paris! And to translate its sparkles during the Golden Twenties or the surrealist years. Brassaï is one of the best known photographers of the Paris we love at the Abaca Messidor. Discover his intense and luminous work at the Hotel de Ville until March 8, 2014!

Brassaï dedicated his work to all those who made Paris a legend. At the beginning of the 20th century, by tirelessly exploring the streets and alleyways, the squares and quays, searching for the nocturnal lights of the city, he drew an original, strange and mythical card of Paris.

The minds of Paris. During his wanderings, alone or with the biggest Bohemian minds of Paris - Henry Miller, Blaise Cendrars or Jacques Prévert - Brassaï harvested from all sights. From the most trivial to the most hidden.
